John Fitch and his first wife, Susannah, along with their five children, were captured by Indians on 5 Jul 1748 and carried to Canada, where they were ransomed a few months later. Susannah died on the return trip. The town of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, was named in honor of this John Fitch.8
