According to Mooar’s Descendants of Isaac Cummings116, “89. THOMAS CUMMINGS (Thomas5, John4, John3, John2, Isaac1) married, Feb. 20, 1755, Lucy Lawrence, daughter of Eleazer, jr., and Lucy (Tuttle) Lawrence, of Littleton, Mass., born Feb. 29, 1731-2. He died Nov. 16, 1818 (aged 86? born 1734?)[.] A Mrs. Thomas Cummings died Oct. 29, [p. 103] 1815. He (or was it his son?) was a fifer in Capt. Z. Wright’s company from Westford, Mass., in 1776.”

This Thomas Cummings was a 1st Lieut. from Mass. in the Revolution, fide DAR info on the Cummings Family Association website. But there may be confusion between this Thomas Cummings and his son Thomas with regard to service in the Revolution; careful work is needed to establish their correct identitied and roles. If this Thomas is indeed the one who was a 1st Lieutenant from Westford, the entry in MSSWR117 that seems to pertain to him reads as follows: “CUMMINGS, THOMAS, Westford. 1st Lieutenant, Capt. Timothy Underwood’s co., Col. William Prescott’s regt. of Minute-men, which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775; service, 5 days; also, 2d Lieutenant, Capt. Wiman’s co., Col. Prescott’s regt.; list of officers recommended to be commissioned by Committee of Safety at Cambridge June 23, 1775; ordered in Provincial Congress June 25, 1775, that commissions be delivered; also, Lieutenant, Capt. Asa Laurance’s co. of volunteers, Col. Jonathan Reed’s regt.; entered service Sept. 27, 1777; discharged Nov. 9, 1777; service, 1 mo. 14 days; company raised in Littleton and Westford and marched to reinforce army under Gen. Gates.”

The company of Capt Abijah Wyman, of Ashby, was in Col. William
Prescott's regiment in that battle. The return, made Oct 3, 1775,
includes the following men from Westford:

Thomas Comings, Second Lieutenant; Daniel Dudley, Corporal; Philip
Robbins, Corporal.

In all 14 men. The return states that "Cesor Bason died June 17."

Mr. Francis Tinker in his sketch of Ashby, in Drake's History of
Middlesex County, Vol. I, p. 223, says that Lieutenant Comings and ten
men in Captain Wyman's company, were from Westford, but he does not
give names.
