On 12 January 1658/9 “a coroner’s jury, summoned by the constable of Cambridge and comprising only Cambridge residents, reported that having been called ‘to view the dead body of Steiven Holden lately deceased, we saw that his skull was crushed by a blow which (we were informed by Samuell Wood and Richard Parke) came by the falling of a tree, which himself had been helping to fall, and as he was going from it, the tree fell suddenly & contrary to the expectation of all that were present, and gave him his mortal wound on the head.’”226
