Student Journal Comments on Peabody Park
Comments about Peabody Park from three student journals kept in a freshman seminar course taught by Ann Somers, UNCG Department of Biology, Fall 1997.
It seems to me that the park was bigger, prettier, less polluted, safer and more peaceful back in the early 1900s. Thanks to modernization the park is now very small, somewhat polluted, and quickly being destroyed.
What once seemed to be a large open site where life could thrive and grow has developed into an ecological cemetery, neglected and left alone to rest in the pollution of the irresponsible public.
In 1902 people seemed so excited about the park and proud about providing it for future generations that, they assumed, would appreciate it as much as they did. I would be ashamed for those people to see us now.
