After studying medicine and mathematics at Padua, he will take a teaching position in Bologna and establish a natural history collection and a botanical garden there. A paradigmatic "Renaissance man", Aldrovandi will be best remembered for his encyclopedic works in Latin on birds, fishes, insects, and metals.
