12384.Thomas? WYMANT529, 11G Grandfather. Born abt 1515.
Threlfall in his GMC50528 conjectures that this Thomas Wymant was the father of Thomas Wymant and the grandfather of Thomas Wymant who married Joan Chrishall. See under grandson Thomas for details from Threlfall.
12396.John DUXFORD764, 11G Grandfather. Born abt 1510. Will dated 12 Feb 1557/8 at Ashwell, Hertfordshire, England. Will proved on 26 Apr 1559.
According to Threlfall’s GMC50765, “JOHN DUXFORD of Ashwell, Hertfordshire, was probably born about 1510. His name, Duxford or Duxforth, derives from the village of Duxford in Cambridgeshire, which is 15 miles NEE of Ashwell. John Duxford was listed on the 1545 Subsidy (tax) Roll at Clothall, a parish 4 1/2 miles south of Ashwell. Since neither a Parish Register nor Bishop’s Transcripts for Ashwell before 1604 have survived, John’s will is the only source of information on his family so far discovered. The tenor of his will suggests that his children were in their late teens or twenties. For some reason, he was concerned that his wife might need outside help in settling his estate.
“That his son Richard was the same Richard who later appeared in Westmill seems fairly certain. The name Duxford was not common and the chronology fits. Westmill is a mere 10 miles to the southeast of Ashwell. An abstract of his will follows.”
12404.John JACKAMAN766, 11G Grandfather. Born abt 1510-5. Will dated 9 Jan 1567/8. Buried 12 Jan 1566/7 in Mendlesham, Suffolk, England. Will proved on 5 Jul 1567.
According to Threlfall’s GMC50767, “JOHN JACKAMAN of Mendlesham, Suffolk, England, was probably born about 1510-1515. He married Katherine _____, probably about 1538. He was buried in Mendlesham on 12 January 1566/7. In his brief will he named only his wife and son John. However, there is no reason to doubt that there were other children, that is, Ambrose and Margaret, who appear in the parish records of Mendlesham.
“Katherine Jacoman, widow, was married 10 November 1567 to Thomas Sprage.” An abstract of John Jackaman’s will follows.

According to Threlfall’s GMC26768, “NICHOLAS POTTER was probably born between 1455 and 1465 at Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, or nearby. He died about April or May 1522. His oral will was dated 5 May and was proved 8 May. The date of the will was most likely the date it was written up and not necessarily the date he died. His wife was named Agnes.” A transcript of Nicholas Potter’s will follows, along with the rates at which he and others were taxed in 1522.

“There is no direct evidence that any of these four individuals listed below were children of Edward. They are placed here because they are the only Garfields of this generation in the Hillmorton register and, based on their dates of marriage, their births could have taken place in the course of a decade.”769

According to Smith,772 “At the burial of his third wife he is called of Corlie [the name of his estate] and also at the burial of his fourth wife. This fourth wife, Margaret, had married first (_____) Cole and had with him a daughter Agnes and a son John, both named in John Warren’s 1576 will.” The will, written two days after the burial of his fourth wife, is transcribed by Smith, and also by Threlfall who in addition transcribes the complete inventory of John Warren’s estate.
