Robert Loker/Riddlesdale is proposed in Threlfall846 as the father of John Loker, and much information is given there about Robert, his wife Joan, and their children. The connection is not firmly established, however. For more details see Threlfall.

According to Threlfall’s GMC50850, “JASPER RIDDLESDALE (or Rydysdale) of Boxford, county Suffolk, England, husbandman, was probably born about 1490. His wife was named Elizabeth.
“Jasper Rydysdale, husbandman, was a churchwarden of Boxford 1542-3 and 1547-8. During the period 1540 to 1550, he was paid various sums for loads of straw, clay, gravel and carriage of lead to the church (2d. in 1547). These must have been for repair of church property, the lead certainly for the church roof. He helped to organize a church ale* [original footnote: “*A money-making social gathering involving provision of food, drink, and entertainment.”] in 1544. In 1548, he bought a blue linen cloth from the church for 2s. He also received rent money from the church for the church house -- 1d. in 1544. He rented a house at Hagmer from the church for 12s.
“Jasper had sisters Agnes, Christine Egle and Margery Skott. Jasper died toward the end of August 1552. Elizabeth made her will shortly after his death and died the next year herself.” Abstracts of the wills of Jasper Riddlesdale and his wife Elizabeth follow.
127033. Elizabeth _____849, 14G Grandmother. Will dated on 30 Oct 1552 at Boxford, Suffolk, England. Died in Boxford, Suffolk, England, in 1553. Will proved on 13 Apr 1553.
According to Threlfall’s GMC50852, “RICHARD BRACKETT was a resident of Sudbury, Suffolk. Also living there at the same time was Edward Brackett, presumably his brother. Both these men appear on the Sudbury list of the Military Survey of 1522, William as an able archer, Edward as an able billman, both listed as butchers, each assessed 12 pence on goods valued at £2. One can reasonably assume that they grew up in the trade and learned it from their father who must also have lived in Sudbury. Two years later, they both appear again on record as taxpayers in the 1524 Subsidy return, each down for 4 pence tax on wages of 20 shillings.
“No earlier record of the name in Sudbury has been found, but it does occur somewhat earlier in other parts of England, or at least possible variations of the name such as Brokett.
“Edward Brackett died in 1540. [Threlfall inserts here an abstract of the will of Edward Brackett, presumptive brother of William Brackett.]
“William Brackett had at least three sons who referred to each other in their wills.” An account of the sons follows, including an abstract of the will of son Thomas. Threlfall’s sources are given as “Suffolk Green Book X; Probate Records at Bury Saint Edmunds; Parish Registers; Bishop’s Transcripts.”853
127092. Nicholas VINCENT854, 14G Grandfather, son of 254184. Andrew VINCENT. Born abt 1494-7. Died abt 1554. Will dated on 13 Nov 1553 at Bildeston, Suffolk, England. Will proved 12 Mar 1553/4.
According to Threlfall’s GMC50855, Nicholas Vincent “of Bildeston, Suffolk, England was probably born about 1495-7 in or near Bildeston, where he apparently spent his life and where he owned considerable property, being a substantial yeoman farmer of his day. In the 1524 Subsidy return, he was listed at Bildeston for a tax of 9 shillings on £6 worth of goods.
“On 13 November 1553, he made his will. Altho [sic] he did not state in the preamble of the will that he was sick, he probably was and anticipated death. He died shortly thereafter and the will was proved 12 March following. He is undoubtedly buried in the churchyard at Bildeston, as he requested in his will.
“He married Agnes, who survived him. His home was on Newberry Street in Bildeston.” An abstract of his will follows.
127096. William FROST856, 14G Grandfather. Born abt 1495-1500. Died in 1549. Will dated on 5 Jul 1549 at Glemsford, Suffolk, England. Will proved on 15 Sep 1549.
According to Threlfall’s GMC50857, “WILLIAM FROST of Glemsford, county Suffolk, England, was probably born about 1495-1500. His wife was named Philippa. William died in the summer of 1549, testate. After his death, his widow remarried on 15 September 1552 at Glemsford, John Webb of Lidgate, which is about eight miles from Glemsford. He was a widower, his wife Rose having been buried at Lidgate on 11 February 1551/2. John and Philippa (-----) (Frost) Webb had a daughter, Anna, baptized in 1553, so it is apparent that Philippa was probably born after 1508. Philippa was buried at Lidgate on 20 January 1577/8 and John Webb on 25 July 1558.
“A William Frost appears in the Glemsford Subsidy list for 1524 when he is taxed two shillings on £4. An abstract of his will follows.”

127098. Richard SCOTT859, 14G Grandfather, son of 254196. Richard SCOTT. Born abt 1510. Buried 5 Feb 1564/5. Will dated 7 Feb 1564/5 at Glemsford, Suffolk, England. Will proved on 28 May 1565.
According to Threlfall’s GMC50860, Richard Scott “of Glemsford, Suffolk, was a clothier and was probably born about 1510, presumably in Glemsford, where he lived and died. His first wife, Joanna, was buried 23 August 1556. Seven weeks later, on 8 October 1556, he and Joan Tollington (or Tollerton) were married. She was the widow of Christopher Tollerton of Cavendish, whose will, dated 12 May 1556, was proved 23 September following. She apparently had a still earlier marriage, for she had a son named Andrew James, according to Richard Scott’s will. This was, no doubt, the Andrew who was bequeathed 40s. and a cow by Christopher Tollerton, no surname or relationship given. Richard Scott was buried on 5 February 1564/5. He was then designated as ‘senior’ to distinguish him from a younger Richard Scott also living in Glemsford -- a first cousin once removed. His widow, Joan, remarried 26 September 1565 to Thomas Hayward, apparently her fourth husband.” An abstract of Richard Scott’s will follows.

According to Threlfall’s GMC50862, John Strutt “of Glemsford in Suffolk was married first to Catherine who was buried there on 18 August 1578. He married secondly 21 October 1578, Julian Scott, daughter of Richard Scott, yeoman, of Fynstead which is in the parish of Glemsford.
“John Strutt appears on the 1568 Subsidy List as taxed 6s.8d. on £5 worth of land. He was buried at Glemsford on 22 April 1591, having made his will six days before. [Does Threfall mean three days before? The will he abstracts is dated 19 April 1591. On p. 112 Threlfall gives John Strutt’s death date as 23 April 1591.] Twelve years later, an Inquisition Post Mortem into the property he held was taken. An abstract of the Inquisition also follows.
“The will of Richard Scott, dated 13 February 1577/8, named Julyan Scott and two of her brothers, Richard and George Scott, who were named in her husband’s will. Julian (Scott) Strutt married secondly at Glemsford, 30 June 1591 widower Ambrose Biggs, senior, and had a daughter who died a year later. Ambrose Biggs was buried 9 May 1621 at Glemsford.” An abstract of John Strutt’s will follows, along with an abstract of the 1603 inquisition into his estate and an abstract of Ambrose Biggs’s will.
