John “Johnny Appleseed” Chapman (1774–1845)

John CHAPMAN (1774–1845), better known as “Johnny Appleseed,” was an early American agricultural pioneer and folk hero. Chapman was born in Leominster, Massachusetts, and I share considerable ancestry with him. In addition to the line below, making us fourth cousins six times removed by virtue of our common descent from Thomas and Katherine (DUXFORD) RICHARDSON, we also share descent from Joseph and Hannah (PHILLIPS) MORSE, Isaac and Mary (BARKER) STEARNS, and Samuel and Elizabeth (JASPER) MORSE [Notable Kin 2: 91–97].

Robert Hutchings GODDARD (1882–1945) was the inventor of the liquid-fueled rocket and a pioneer of space flight. We are ninth cousins twice removed by virtue of our common descent from Walter ANTROBUS and Joan ARNOLD, parents of Massachusetts immigrant Joan ANTROBUS, who married first Thomas LAWRENCE, and second John TUTTLE [Notable Kin 2: 40–47].

Colonel William PRESCOTT (1726–1795) was the American commander at the Battle of Bunker Hill, 17 June 1775. I am his first cousin nine times removed by virtue of common descent from Jonas PRESCOTT and Mary (LOKER) PRESCOTT. Jonas and Mary (Loker) Prescott are also ancestors of the historian William Hickling PRESCOTT (1796–1859) [Notable Kin 1: 188–197].
