Governor Sarah Louise (Heath) Palin (1964– )

Two of the four candidates for United States president and vice president in the 2008 elections have colonial New England ancestry: Barack Hussein OBAMA (1961– ) and Sarah Louise (HEATH) PALIN (1964– ). The ancestry of John Sidney MCCAIN III (1936– ) and Joseph Robinette BIDEN Jr. (1942– ) lie mainly in Virginia and the mid-Atlantic states, respectively.

Obama is a descendant of Massachusetts immigrants Edward FITZRANDOLPH (1607– ) and Samuel HINCKLEY ( –1662) of Scituate, but these lines do not connect to any of mine as far as I have been able to determine. Palin, on the other hand, has considerable Massachusetts ancestry, and it is likely that I am linked to her through several common ancestors. The connection below shows us to be twelfth cousins once removed by virtue of our common descent from Edward FROST (1560/1–1616), a clothier of Glemsford and Stanstead, Suffolk, and his wife Thomasine BELGRAVE (1561/2– ) of Leverington, Cambridgeshire. Several of their children emigrated to Massachusetts where they left many descendants.
